On several nights in August and September 2001, I photographed what was happening in the unisex toilet at the Berlin club Cookies #6.
I shot a total of 14 rolls of film, with 10 exposures each, using a Mamiya RZ67 medium-format camera with wide-angle lenses. My assistant at the time, Sarah Heidelberg, worked with a Norman 200C mobile flash system.
I observed situations and, with the participants’ permission, recreated them for the camera on location. I called the series Comfort Zone. The photographs were printed in the original proportions of the negatives and were not retouched.
The series records a few nights of Berlin club life at the turn of the millennium.
An mehreren Abenden im August und September 2001 fotografierte ich das Geschehen auf der Unisex-Toilette des Berliner Clubs Cookies #6.
Ich belichtete insgesamt 14 Filme mit jeweils zehn Aufnahmen und arbeitete mit einer Mamiya RZ67 Mittelformatkamera und Weitwinkelobjektiven. Meine damalige Assistentin Sarah Heidelberg arbeitete mit einem mobilen Norman-200C-Blitzsystem.
Ich beobachtete Situationen und stellte sie anschließend mit Einverständnis der Beteiligten vor der Kamera am selben Ort nach. Die Serie nannte ich Comfort Zone. Die Fotografien wurden im ursprünglichen Seitenverhältnis der Negative gedruckt und nicht retuschiert.
Die Serie dokumentiert einige Nächte des Berliner Clublebens um die Jahrtausendwende.
